Super Smash Bros.: The one with Ridley in it
Re: Super Smash Bros
Sonic was pretty shitty. He was too slow, ironically. His neutral B was an annoying spam move if you don't know how to deal with it, but once you do it becomes pretty trivial.

I kept running right off the stage with him.Omnithea wrote:I'm out of the loop. Was the popular opinion that Sonic was OP and broken or is it that he's terrible?
Re: Super Smash Bros
Sonic is pretty bad. His movement his fast but not all of his moves are, and the ones with killing power lack both speed and range. Most of his kill moves cannot be combo'd into. Good use of his B specials make him hard to edgeguard, but since he's a lightweight, any powerful smash, meteor smash or spike can take him out at low percent. He has alright defensive options but his offensive options are few and far between, mostly relying on punishing the opponents for mistakes by moving in and out of their range, instead of outright pressuring them with attacks. He's not the worst, though: he has more than a dozen characters ranked behind him in the 1v1 no items tier list, but he could take the advantage in item matches by grabbing them before the opponent thanks to his speed.

Re: Super Smash Bros
also his neutral B is fucking awful
The spindashes are pretty okay but he's just too weird and too floaty to really take advantage of anything.
Make him a little more of a mid-weight, make his moves a little faster and just a tad harder hitting, and change the neutral B into something that doesn't take an hour to actually attack and he'd be way better right there.

Re: Super Smash Bros
The speed/item thing with Sonic probably helped me a lot because I mostly played item matches - his speed probably meant I got the Smash Ball before other people too (most of the time).

Eh. Maybe I should have played against somebody who wasn't a computer more than twice.
Character is what you are in the dark.

Re: Super Smash Bros
Sonic's Final Smash was just stupid though. He could kill everyone on the entire stage, hover where they respawn, then kill them again before it ran out.
Also Zelda wasn't so much OP as really annoying at long-range and effective at close range. My brother's friend loved using Snake and I loved stealing the Smash Ball with Din's Fire and smacking him down with Neutral A when he came after me for it.

Stuff goes here later.
Re: Super Smash Bros
Sonic's Neutral B has uses, not only does it give you great horizontal recovery, it can also keep you in the air indefinitely if used carefully. You can use it in combos, to chase the opponents and mix them up on knockdown, or to edgeguard against specific characters, after specific moves. It has a pretty good range, too. Of course, it has downsides and isn't easy to use at all.

Re: Super Smash Bros
yeah but it dosen't seem to fit what they wanted him to be, which is more of a quicker but lighter character
it does shit damage for the time it takes and honestly it's never seemed to be worth using when it can be dodged so easily

Re: Super Smash Bros
Yeah, as I said it has drawbacks (slow, low damage, weird aiming). Too situational. But Sonic has to make do with all of his moves, as shit as they are, if he wants to pull through and win.

Re: Super Smash Bros
i think if they'd just made his B just a quick spindash on it's own, where he just shoots forwards regardless of location, like luigi's charge move but with a longer range, that'd be pretty handy
you could hold it down to charge up and shoot forwards even faster for slightly more damage

Re: Super Smash Bros
A friend mentioned to me how rad Pious Augustus would be as a smash fighter and now I can't stop thinking about it.

Re: Super Smash Bros
I beat Tabuu with Sonic exclusively because I was so hype that I finally unlocked him
He's not bad for the adventure mode.
which is really just what set me up for disappointment
but hey if they changed BOWSER that much
