I swear for everytime i see someone try to say competitive smash players want the game to be like street fighter or tekken i die a little inside....
Competitive smash has not ever been like sf/tekken, the players aren't trying to make it like SF/tekken, and they never will want it like SF/Tekken, if we were then we would of been wanting there to be a health bar at the top of the screen, want the point to be about depleting opponents health bar and not knocking em off stage, and would want the game to have extremely complex button combinations for all moves, and make Final destination the only stage playable(little fun fact of the day; FD is NOT the only stage allowed in smash tournaments, and never has been, I won't go into all the details of the neutral starter stages and then the counterpick stages, but believe me when i say that there are a lot more than just FD allowed in tournaments.)
Were nintendo to make any of those changes to smash to try and make it like a traditional fighter, every last competitive player alive would be just as furious as all casual players.
The only thing competitive players do is they try to eliminate the luck factor and ridiculous exploits that items and *some* stages promote, no one wants to be in the finals match of a 5,000$ tournament only to get screwed over bc a bob-bomb fell in their face during a move, they've done more than enough testing and even attempted to have item tournaments during melee's years(east coast of smash i believe it was, had item matches standard for awhile, but stopped because it never gave consistent results) and have all come to the conclusion, that with how items are currently, competitively its better to just leave items off
sorry i just went back a page and saw that even now today, there are still people who don't understand the serious/competitive side of smash, and have let these lame stereotypes on em persist over the years, we never want smash to be like a traditional fighter, never have, never will, the only thing we're wanting is for the game to be flexible and balanced enough to be playable competitively, but competitively doesn't mean "traditional fighter mechanics" The smash community still very much does want the games to always be about knocking opponents offstage, attacks being based on "smash, tilt, or neutral" moves and specials, etc.
If folks don't want to play the game competitively, that's fine none of the competitive players are trying to force folks to play it competitively, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop with the lame stereotypes on the competitive/serious players that have been stuck on em for years.
/rant.
now with that said, i'll be glad to face anyone here, with really any type of ruleset is fine(but if items are on i'd prefer it to be a ffa...and bumpers, must have bumpers) another stereotype on competitive players has always been that they dread items and wacky stages at all times, when the reality is that its only in tournaments or serious matches where they're either practicing against better opponents, or having mone y matches, other times most are fine with items and all stages if its just to goof off and not be serious.
I also have project M so i don't mind playing it against anyoen here either. Just pm me since i got a feeling there probably won't be another post on the smash bros board here for at least a week to a month
EDIT: yikes, didn't expect this post to start the new page...least I know for sure now though that folks will see it....
