He hasn't confirmed if it'll be a Mii or something more creative. It could also be that you have a set pool of moves to choose from and you only unlock aesthetic stuff. Then you can transfer your character to the console to fight with.
My immediate thought to the quoted statement: Awesome.

Having customization in it would win me over more since I do like my customization due to having multiple choices that can be changed if you don't like it.

I think this means I'll have to buy it on two consoles, and possibly a WiiU console if SSB4 isn't being made for Wii, which seems to be the case.

SSB4 was announced for WiiU. It's definitely not coming to the Wii.

(Just getting started in the Video Games forum. Sorry if I miss anything; I'm not exactly planning on reading through 100+ pages just to see if someone's already said what I'm going to say)

I believe it's also been announced for the 3DS. All I'm gonna say for now about playable characters is that they HAD BETTER INCLUDE A FUCKING SIN & PUNISHMENT CHARACTER. Preferably Isa. Saki wouldn't be bad, but Isa has a greater range of moves and he can fly. But I will tolerate no excuses for not including a Sin & Punishment character. I will hold a gerbil at gunpoint if that's what it takes.

Customisation of character in fighting games is extremely hard to balance, because an interesting customisation tool means so many different possibilities that it's impossible to test them all properly.

I personally hope they just focus on adding new characters and revisiting old ones, making them all as balanced, varied and fun to use as possible. New mechanics like that tag team thing Omnithea mentioned would be cool too.

I really don't care if Smash Bros is balanced.

Which isn't much of a problem really. Most people play around with a few characters they like anyways, not trying out every single one besides using them to get trophies/challenges completed. This would help people make the most out of the characters they pick, rather than only using a few of the preset moves they're confident with/are fast enough to land a hit.

Plus, the more complex the game is, the more turbulent/harder it will be to determine what the tiers are going to be, which will hopefully mean that the "hardcore" side of the fanbase won't be able to find a perfect strategy if there's always effective counters (just from sheer numbers) to them.

Basically, it will have the potential to become varied in a way much more like the Pokemon series is only on a more intimate level of individual skill, and I personally welcome that.

More skins. Not just color schemes. Have a Paper Mario stage and give everyone a Paper style look.
Other items to add:
Gunpowder Barrel (leaks gunpowder on floor and can be ignited)
Door Potion from Mario Bros. 2 (Doki Doki Panic)
Blue Turtle Shell

WOAH

WAIT A MINUTE

Blue shells? People bitch enough about them in Mario Kart!
And don't even get me started on how the AI would abuse them.

There need to be more Metroid characters. The only question is who. Ridley's way too big, all the hunters from Hunters have only been in one game, as have the hunters in Corruption, and the soldiers from Other M. The only possible one I can think of is Dark Samus...actually, that could work...

Also, I'm probably alone in this opinion, but I'd really like to see Alex from Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem as a playable character. Extra points if you know what the hell I'm talking about.

I object. Resizing can be used in SSB, you know. Did you know that Olimar's only the size of a penny? If they can make him big enough to fight in Brawl, Ridley can be sized down just enough to be playable.

Well having Dark Samus would kind of be like having Dark Link. Besides they've got their colour pallets so there's no realy need for them in game, imo.
I wouldn't mind being able to play as some more characters from the Zelda games actualy. Maybe they could add in a Goron or somethinhg.

MIDNA!! Dark Samus would be neat if she/it was given enough difference in moves. The problem I see with Metroid characters is there's no sympathy or empathy for them. Samus is cool, but everything else is an alien that needs to be shot. Samus clearly deserves representation followed by a Metroid, the Hunter ship, and then the ostrich thing and the monkey things.

Well if they have Midna there needs to be both her true form, and the imp form.
