Partners in Time is stellar, and yet also one of my least favorite Mario RPGs. (#1 least favorite is Sticker Star, which is still really great)

Paper Mario TTYD is probably the best one.

Please tell me that was on purpose.

Anyway, the Mario RPGs are no pinnacle of writing, but they do manage to keep most players entertained. Besides, if you want to look for a timeless epic, any Mario game is probably not the route to go.
I've never played the game boy advance series, but I've played (at least part) of all the Paper Mario games. The latest one, Sticker Star for the 3DS, is kind of a departure from the original formula, and you focus more on resource management than gaining exp (which there is none of in this game). In this case, it's often more advisable to avoid enemies, which is pretty easy for this game.

It's not just timeless epics that have top-notch writing. In my opinion, great writing involves many things, but one of those most important is the evolution of a character. As in they start as one person and over the course of the story they change because of its events, for better or worse. That can be anything from a brick-heavy book to some light sub-100 pagers.

Mario games don't have that. Mario is always Mario. Peach is always Peach. Bowser is always Bowser. They don't change, and are pretty much templates from game to game. Dolls the player can move around and have fun with. The games can still be fun, but they do not have top-notch writing. Just an entertaining script.

It's super fun and the characters are hilarious. You don't need much ~character development~ to have an adventure fulla twists and fun. It's top-notch for what it is.

Pretty rare, and pretty awesome.

Decided to try the Ancient Cave in Lufia 2 again, got down to the mid 20s level and got killed by blue mimics. :(

EVERYONE SHOULD PLAY LUFIA 2.

I emulated it (don't hit meee!) a while back because my fried told me that I MUST PLAY IT. I finally beat it last year because procrastination. It was pretty good, but I wouldn't play it again... 4/5

AND NOW I REMEMBER A CERTAIN BOSS THAT I HATED AND I AM GOING TO RAGE ABOUT IT IN THE OTHER TOPIC.

I disagree with the new title, I've always stuck with the FFVII spelling of "Aeris".

So I recently got into Etrian Odyssey and Wild Arms.

Wild Arms is pretty good so far, I bought WA3 from amazon and WA1 from the Ps store, I haven't gotten story really moving though. Also I actually really like Etrian Odyssey, I pre ordered IV and just got it today. I'm pretty sure my first reaction to a F.O.E was "oh an enemy on the actual screen?"

"So it's a boss? I guess I'll go ahead and get rid of it ahead of ti-"

*F.O.E attacks and promptly one shots my leader and then proceeds to curbstomp my party*

"-me.......well shit"

Also has anybody heard of The Last Remnant and Infinte Undiscovery because I will admit without any shame at all that those two games are my favorite RPGS.

I don't care it the Xbox360 version of TLR was buggy as shit I fucking played that game twice and then bought it on steam when we sold my brother's Xbox360.

I have TLR and I am not playing it until I have a guide in front of me all the way. I despise games that punish you for grinding. Not to mention it offers no help whatsoever on seeing the customization paths and class growth. So the whole game is one big Guide Dang It.

TLR was the glitchiest piece of shit I ever played on a PS3, complete with textures popping in five-ten seconds after the objects themselves loaded. It felt unfinished, ally equipment management was absent, and...just...christ that game had a lot of issues.
And god it was fun.

I really want to get the improved PC version, now.
