Terrible drawing from DA are technically just outsider art.

Upscaling the size of living organismes doesn't work because of diffusion rates, volume/surface relations etc.Sleauxbreaux wrote:What if time is cyclical and every time the universe ends, it starts back up again the exact same way, so every time it starts, the big bang happens or whatever and earth is formed back into exactly what it was the last time time went around, except every time life starts to exist again, everything is like twice as big as it was the last time around, so the earth is smaller in relation to everything on it, so like twenty universe cycles from now, only a few tens of thousands of people can fit on each continent?
So if the universe is finite, I always end up trying to imagine a border of some kind, which is obviously wrong, but what if the universe is an expanding energy well? So the further you get from the center, the more energy it costs to move outward, and towards the 'edge' the energy/distance relation is asymptotic, so you could keep getting infinitely closer to the 'edge' but never reach it.

What if the 'edge' is the line between dimensions so if you cross the 'edge' you cross into another dimension.Syobon wrote:Upscaling the size of living organismes doesn't work because of diffusion rates, volume/surface relations etc.Sleauxbreaux wrote:What if time is cyclical and every time the universe ends, it starts back up again the exact same way, so every time it starts, the big bang happens or whatever and earth is formed back into exactly what it was the last time time went around, except every time life starts to exist again, everything is like twice as big as it was the last time around, so the earth is smaller in relation to everything on it, so like twenty universe cycles from now, only a few tens of thousands of people can fit on each continent?

I always just imagined that the "universe," as we know it, is just the parts of a large vacuum that are full of matter, and the "edge" is just where that matter hasn't reached yet.Syobon wrote:

The universe isn't just matter, it encompasses the vaccuum too. Think of it as a rubber sheet with balls on it, the balls being matter. The rubber sheet is being stretched from every side (it's actually expanding from every point in space), so if you are on a ball it looks like everything is moving away from you.

That is 100% true in Coober-pedy.Gryewolf wrote:Your house is just a futuristic cave.

I like to think of all the life on Earth as a thin film of organic ooze that covers the planet. We're all cells, we're all organic chemical reactions taking place, taking energy and reproducing from each others' resources. We're all connected by that same chemistry that runs our metabolism and growth.
Really we're just one big chemical reaction taking place on a spherical petri dish, like a higher power is doing an experiment to see what happens as the ooze grows.

Arcades are just casinos for kids. Kidsinos.

God I spent fifteen minutes trying to find the relevant SMBC I'm thinking off, but I can't find it. I think I know it almost word for word too.SaintCrazy wrote:I like to think of all the life on Earth as a thin film of organic ooze that covers the planet. Re: Weird Ways of Thinking of Things
are we human or are we dancer?
no but really like just imagine someone thought of different swimming strokes and then made them commonplace all around the world (i had better ones but i forgot).
i suppose there's the one like why does chateau mean house in french when it looks like it'd be cats water

Not too far below us is an unimaginably gigantic ocean of violently churning magma.

Your car runs on explosions.

Everything that isn't a leaf, root or flower that comes off a plant is actually a fruit, even if it's a "vegetable." All of it. Samaras, dandelion fluff, nuts, peaches, seedpods, all of those are fruits. Fruits are anything designed to contain, protect, nourish or disperse seeds.
Also when you eat a fruit you are basically eating a big meaty plant ovary.
