Olympics General Discussion. Why hasn't this been made yet?

Post by Kamak »

So I've been wanting to discuss the Olympics but I'm never sure where to discuss it and the discussions have been scattered everywhere.

So discuss your shit here.

To start this off, I'm still a bit upset over the 1500M men's final with Algeria's Taoufik Makhloufi. He wasn't putting in the effort in other races, lagging well behind because of an "injury" and was nearly evicted from the games for not putting effort in (though Algeria protested and got the ruling overturned). Then, suddenly, in the 1500M, he's head of the pack and pulling away from them significantly with little effort, netting the Gold.

It seems too scummy to me to be a miraculous recovery, especially since his actions didn't seem like he was working through the pain or anything like we've seen other injured Olympians do.

Just wanted to say that I have endless admirations for these athletes who have managed to push themselves beyond the normal human limits.

Boxing is probably my favorite Olympic sport. Say what you will about brain damage and other such things, but we have come a LONG way safety-wise since the sport was first created.
Burn 'em to shreds, tear 'em to ashes.

I'm not too concerned with watching sports. I do enjoy it when the Netherlands do well in certain events such as swimming. Whenever I see or read interviews with them they tend to be very down-to-Earth.

Gymnastics and equestrian are my sports of choice to watch. I've unfortunately missed like every men's gymnastic competition since opening day because they are at 11 here and that's my bedtime and equestrian is over I think. Gonna catch up with them online this weekend though. Favourite events are floor, high bar, uneven bars, parallel bars and rings. mm.

I've been keeping up with the ladies however. Ally and Gabby have just been so good. I enjoyed watching Jordyn perform last night for the first time in ages (that I've seen anyway,) even though she didn't medal.

Gymnastics are great to watch. Congrats to Canada on winning a Gold Medal in the trampoline one. Although it seemed kind of rude that the girls looked like :D when the Chinese gymnast fell on her butt on the dismount. I also like watching swimming, and Equestrian. I saw cycling once and that was cool too.

Though, the best part of all is always the opening ceremony. Mr. Bean! Marry Poppins! And a 100 ft tall Voldemort! Sooo cool!

the best part of the opening ceremony was the industrial revolution song (it's called We Will facebattle or similar and you can find it on youtube)

it felt a bit like it dragged though, but i enjoyed all the parts. i loved that JK Rowling narrated the storybook part! Also that they used Chariots of Fire for the Mr. Bean part. A+

Currently we're third in the league tables, just behind Russia and China (I think, although one might be the U.S.A. so idk) so right now the press and the people are pretty ecstatic, haha. That being said I haven't really watched any events, it's on nearly every channel and advert so I'm a bit sick of it, but I'll try and watch something. But yes, the athletes are incredible and most of them are good looking.

Jesus, I stop paying attention for a day and suddenly America jumps ahead of China in medals.

It's because a lot of the finals for sports that have been going on all week have ended, right? I haven't caught up on what's going (or rather, went) down today yet.
