THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME THIS FOR THE FIFTIETH FUCKING TIME.
I know prom won't matter later. I get that, but it matters to me now. I don't know why It's so wrong care about prom and shit like that.
But this also isn't about prom, it's about the overwhelming sense of loneliness because I see all of my friends in relationships and loving it.
And besides, this guy is pretty nice.
P.S.: Sorry for being a shit about things. I'm kind of angry and i've heard that so many times and UGH. BEING A TEENAGER IS HAAAAARD~
Yeah I'm sorry I'm just going to stop talking now.
All I can really offer to this is another classic: We understand.
I've spent plenty of nights freaking out that I can't get a girlfriend and I'll die alone and disapoint my parents and my friends wonder what's wrong with me and oh God oh god!
What's going to happen is it's going to happen...a lot...so much so that eventually your brain is going to say "You know what? Fuck this..." and stop worrying about all of that nonsense.
Because lonliness sucks...but a shitty relationship is worse. Lucky me, I had my roommate and his shenanigans to help me learn that. So you're going to have crushes that fail because they would never have ever worked as a relationship, and at first it's going to suck because the panic will kick in that maybe this was the last chance to get a relationship. Then what will happen is it'll happen again, and you'll have the same panic. Then it'll happen again, and with the same panic. Then you'll analyze the situation, realize you've been panicking over something that was just not true, and actually worked in your favor, since most of the time you later find out it was a story worth the label of "bullet dodged."
Why?
Well...to put it in simple terms, your brain, all throughout your teenage years and well into your twenties, will have the insight of a 5 year old.

I don't do stupid shit.
I feel stupid shit.
It was also a joke, if you couldn't tell by the exaggeration of it.

You're going to quickly learn that if you can't control your feelings then you're not gonna have a good time in the real world.

I once tripped and faceplanted straight into a high schooler's tiddies once when I was in elementary school. I don't even know how.

Guy was a girl.
She liked me too even though she knew I was gay.
She let me flirt with her a but before she told me. It came up casually And I called her a guy, so she corrected me.
But... She honestly liked me too, and this is the first time anyone has ever liked me.
If I was straight we could have happened. It would have worked.
I don't blame her for not telling me right away, I would have done the same thing.
We are still really good friends, but this is the first time my heart has ever hurt.
We like each other but we can't be together.
Fuck man.

That's really all there is to it.
Well, this feels awkward. It was illegal for me to be with Noff, but we still got together.
19 months, woo It's also a long distance relationship (and we haven't met IRL yet), so I feel like I kinda broke AZ's relationship rules.

It's been nearly two years (officially anyway) since Tuxedo Mask and I got together. I mentioned this in passing to a girl in my college class and she stared at me in shock, then asked me why we weren't married or even engaged yet. Forget the fact we're long distance and have only physically been together once so that would be considered moving FAR too fast... I'm really concerned about my peer group if they think that you need to be engaged after a year or else you don't love each other

That works for some people but considering I come from a family that seems to specialize in divorces after early/impulsive marriages, I want to be absolutely certain the rose-tinted glasses are off before I agree to something like that. Also if I could have lived with him for at least a year to be sure we won't kill one another, that'd help too.
That said, he's been the first person I've dated that I can actually picture myself being with in however many years' time. Has to count for something, I suppose.

in fact if you go alone you might even get with someone
high school stuff seems like a big deal now but i guarantee you in a couple years you would not even care
there are plenty of people of there just that in high school you're pretty tied down and away from the wide world
All the same though, I think you came on a bit too strong.
To a lot of people, prom means nothing, even if, at the time, it was the most major thing ever.
But there are also people who remember it for a long time. Two of my friends in high school were really pop flyin' that the school let them go to prom as a gay couple despite a few parents being mad over it, and it was bodaciously their last chance to be together because one of them had to leave before graduation and then move across the country.
It's also often the only chance a lot of people get to do something for themselves. Someone in high school that I knew was constantly under their parent's thumb and working a part time job in addition to juggling a lot of clubs. Prom was something they were expected to go to because of their parents, but it was also a chance to dress up and relax with their friends when they couldn't otherwise.
Beyond which, people really don't need to have a good reason for going to prom, just that they want to do it. True, maybe prom is a bit overemphasized and people can feel forced to be a part of it or "left out" if they don't go, but the answer to that isn't to say "prom doesn't matter, you'll understand when you're older".

your peer group sounds like mine haha. i was jokingly considered an old maid because i was 22 when i got married (and had dated over 3 years!) most girls i know got married almost immediately after graduating at 17/18/19 years old. granted they'd mostly dated through all of highschool, but STILL. i even didn't really think i was going to get married til i was 23 at least - but life kinda made it necessary that we get married sooner so we could both be in a better place mentally.
on the flipside the other half of my peer group berated me for getting married so young because THEY couldn't see themselves married at 26 much less 22 oh noes.
