I usually search a divider using a calculator (TABLE function from -d to d with intervals of 1 (d being the number without a variable next to it)) and then use the system of Horner to determine the coefficients of the new polynomial equation. Rinse and repeat until you get a quadratic equitation. Not the most elegant method I must admit.
Uhhh you could do long division if you kinda have an idea what you're going for. Like if its part of a bigger problem and x-1 would make it easier if it were a factor.
Other than that, no idea.
Yeah system of Horner is just a faster way to do long divisions. The annoying part is finding the correct factor to divide with.

I can also help people kick Physics in the face.
I freaking love Physics.

Mostly I just need to keep nomenclature and "building" steps in mind.
I had Organic Chemistry 1 last semester (nomenclature, saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, electronic effects, alcohols and aromatics) and will start O. Chem. 2 tuesday. I still have my textbook and I think I remember stuff fairly well, so you could always ask me if you have a problem.

Nomenclature is pure memorising and for learning reaction steps just make a fuck ton of exercises until it comes naturally to you.

x = 8
this should help:

are you allowed a calculator?
wait you don't need one anyway
use pythagoras theorem
a^2 + b^2 = c^2
so 4^2 + 4root3^2 = x^2

a^2 + b^2 = c^2 works with that.
(4)^2 + (4root3)^2 = x^2
16+48= x^2
64= x^2
root64 = 8
Also what Alex posted.

Alex's picture confuses me even more.
Yes, I'm allowed a calculator.

Sorry for double post, but, how are you getting 48 for 4root3^2? I don't know how to do that, and if I put it in my calculator it's 12.

4root3 should be in a bracket, because you're squaring the entire function.
So it should look something like (4root3)^2.
If you keep it as 4root3^2, it only squares the root3, and the multiplies it by the 4.
You need to keep in mind the order of operations.

What's a good way to explain why the brain encourages sugar intake?
And daisies why is it that it's easy to understand something but not to explain it?

Hoo boy I have not taken a proper physiology class
Maybe talk about the endorphins and whatnot, like how your brain "rewards" you for eating sugar. If you're talking about it from a broader standpoint you can talk about how early humans had a much harder time finding food to eat and food with sugar had lots of energy in it the body can use.
On a different note, I had this discussion with some friends earlier: what's your favorite/least favorite type of schoolwork to do? I like reading assignments and writing is okay, but I can't stand a huge list of formulaic homework problems like you'd find in math or my chemistry class. Especially when you're doing them just for "practice" and you're never completely done because you're supposed to do lots of them to get used to the concepts. On the other hand I have friends who hate reading and love homework problems, or maybe they hate busy work or group work.
