Ridiculous Ochem test tomorrow. I got about 50% of it no problem, but the other 50% is Sn1/Sn2/E1/E2 stuff which she taught all funky.

Instead of teaching it like "This is an Sn2 rxn. Things that identify an Sn1 but not the other three are *BLAH BLAH BLAH*" and then doing that for all 4 of them, she taught it all "If it's a 1 prime carbon, it can be any of these of the four, if it's a 2 prime carbon, it can be any of these of the four, and don't get me started on basic stuff."

I think I got it down to this though:

Sn1
3 prime
if 2 prime look for resonance
Sn2
1 prime

E1
weak base in reactants

E2
strong base in reactants

I don't know if that works though. Differentiating Sn and E are easy, so there's no issue there.

AZ, I am ripping my hair out. I'm trying to finish this study sheet for my math class and it's been taking me a long time to do each problem but now I am completely stuck.

I'm supposed to be solving this equation for w:

n = 2w / (p-w)p

I've gotten to n = 2w / p^2 - pw

but I have NO IDEA where to go from here. If anyone could maybe just tell me what steps I need to take to get to the answer I would be really really grateful.

OK, I think I went the long way, put here's what I got.

w = (np²)/(2+np)

Here's how I got it:

n = 2w / p² - pw Start

n(p²-pw) = 2w Multiply both sides by p² - pw

np²-npw = 2w Multiply the n(p²-pw) expression

((np²)/w)-((npw)/w) =2 Divide both sides by w

((np²)/w)-np =2 Cancelling

(np²)/w = 2+np move np to the other side of the expression

np² = w(2+np) Multiply both sides by w

(np²)/(2+np) = w Divide both sides by (2+np)

w = (np²)/(2+np) Reversed equation for no good reason

I haven't math'd in a while so I apologize if it's bad.
