You also tend to tip coffee places, but those can often fall between restaurant and fast food considering you might spend half an hour or longer relaxing and enjoying the ambience.

Re: The Current Events Thread
Yeah but then it still depends on the tip jar or the place.
If it's like a Starbucks look for a tip jar but otherwise don't.
If it's a smaller place, def tip no matter what.

There's also the very first line where it states that all porn with rape in it will become illegal. The sentiment is nice, but the execution seems like it has the potential to blow up the instant someone is hit for importing a doujin.

Re: The Current Events Thread
Look, rape fetishism is pretty goddamn disturbing, but a FICTIONAL movie made with two consenting adult actors should not be made illegal because the subject matter makes most people squeamish. It never ends well when you start up the censorship machine.
Re: The Current Events Thread
It's still censorship of the Internet. Doesn't matter what the intent behind it is, that is never okay. I also have an issue with people making laws about the Internet who don't actually care about it and don't understand what it is, like when SOPA and PIPA were coming up for vote in the USA and none of the politicians could even answer straight questions because they had no idea what they were talking about or what the projected consequences would be.

Thats what happens when everyone who makes the laws are a thousand years old and dont use any technology made after the 50s
Re: The Current Events Thread
Walmart asks its employees to submit positive stories about the "real Walmart" in response to Gawker publishing horror stories about Walmart. Instead Gawker receives stories far worse than they'd ever received before.
This may just be my brief, thankfully, experience with Walmart talking but I love seeing them take repeated shots to the junk without mercy.

Of course, Wal Mart COULD stop being a horrible company run by vampires feeding off misery, but that would mean having to stop being corporate assholes

Walmart is total booty, and I'm glad I don't buy things there any more. And every time I'm tempted to go inside for whatever reason, I'm quickly reminded of how dismal it is when I step in then get the hell out of dodge.

Re: The Current Events Thread
Too bad their business strategy is basically unbeatable, by screwing the employees and everyone else around them, they can afford the cheap prices that ensures consumers coming back. Short of actual labor laws, which is pretty unlikely that the US will ever properly enforce, there's nothing that can be done, since people are incapable of regulating themselves.

Re: The Current Events Thread
The problem is that the moment any of these companies relent and think about the employees, they get swept under by the other companies. It's gotten so that mom and pop shops have to pull the same bullshit with their employees to stay in business (because they don't want to go under and be a peon for other businesses).
If any of them cared, they'd be killing themselves by either scaring investors, customers, or just letting competition take advantage and run them over.

Which is why labor laws need to be revised in such a way as to force everyone to adhere to the same standards. Paying a living wage would be the first on my list. Service industry jobs are just as necessary as white-collar work, there's no reason they should be paid so little.

Re: The Current Events Thread
The reason is that the people who CAN change things are paid off by the corporate higher ups, and their voter base are so obsessed with the capitalist lone wolf bullshit theyve been bombarded with for over a century that ANYTHING taht could actually make things better for the lower classes are seen as communism, socialism or other things they dont actually know what it is.

So remember that McDonald's budget thing? Forbes interviewed a typical McDonalds employee about it. It is not pretty.
