The Current Events Thread
Re: The Current Events Thread
When I first read about that, I thought I had ended up on a fake news site. I've heard stories about how crazy football fans can get, but this is a whole new level.

Re: The Current Events Thread
Yesterday, a train full of oil exploded in the middle of Lac-Mégantic, Qc. Surrounding buildings were completely destroyed, around 40 people are dead.
For the love of everything don't read the comments
Railroads go right through my own town. A few weeks ago my supervisor commented that it was stupid because if a train was to explode, it would do a lot of damage. And now this happens in a town not 150 km away from here.

America is no longer the fattest developed country in the world; Mexico is.

I don't know whether to celebrate or cry.

I thought Italy was anyway?
Like, I know we were in the top three at least, but I'm not sure if we were actually all the way up there or not.

Also apparently the fattest nation period is an island one where 95% of the population is overweight.
Stuff goes here later.

I can't figure out for the life of me why that FAO article was linked since the only relevant figure I found in it was this.

The weird part is that its the poor who are fat now, because most of the affordable food in industrial nations are full of fattening stuff.

To be fair, it is kinda more difficult to confiscate a gun from somebody.

nah in poor dangerous areas, grocery stores often don't want to open up shop. So they have to rely on fast food.TheStranger wrote:The weird part is that its the poor who are fat now, because most of the affordable food in industrial nations are full of fattening stuff.

Re: The Current Events Thread
Also because mac 'n cheese with hot dogs is way cheaper than pasta with a vegetable sauce and some chicken.
Re: The Current Events Thread
Yeah, that's partly because of subsidies that the fast food companies get.
