Marine Le Pen, the batshit leader of the main far right party in France (Front National), just got her European parliament immunity revoked because she compared letting muslims pray in the streets to being occupied by the Nazis. Following the ruling, she compared the jury to Soviets from the USSR and said this wouldn't stop her from saying THE TRUTH.
To be more accurate, she said that "Muslims praying in the streets" was like "a form of occupation", she didn't mention Nazis. However, she did compare the EU to the Soviets.

To be honest I haven't heard about that.
Le Pen is pretty crazy though, as much as her father was.

It's at this point where this crosses over into authoritarianism. While that was a very bad joke and shouldn't have been made, it's the parent's job to raise their kids not to devour beating hearts, not the government's.

Only thing this prison sentence would do is to expose a young individual to dangerous people, provide a terrifying experience and frighten people into not expressing themselves.

The kid deserves a slap on the wrist. All the folks crying for his blood (or, well, for him to serve jail time) are in the wrong here, even though that kid is too.

Not to mention, as someone said in the comments, he'd be in prison for the most critical years of his adult life if convicted, which would leave him with no job skills, little education, and overall a great formula to actually start committing crimes just to survive.

The article I read said l'Occupation. I thought that meant WWII. Maybe it's wrong though.

There is this documentary about it. It seems to be a catholic thing first and foremost, but I distinctly remember them saying they have ties with FN.

Aah. Yeah, it's really daisies creepy.

As for Le Pen's quote, I checked and the exact quote is
«Je suis désolée, mais pour ceux qui aiment beaucoup parler de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, s'il s'agit de parler d'occupation, on pourrait en parler, pour le coup, parce que ça c'est une occupation du territoire. Certes, y'a pas de blindés, y'a pas de soldats, mais c'est une occupation tout de même et elle pèse sur les habitants.»
Which translates to
«I'm sorry, but for those who like to talk about WWII a lot, if we're talking about occupation, we could talk about it here, because this is an occupation of the territory. Yes, there are no tanks, there are no soldiers, but it's still an occupation, and it weighs on the inhabitants.»
So, she was indeed talking about Nazi occupation.
She maintains these words to these days, saying that she "dared say what everyone in France thinks" and that she isn't afraid of being brought to justice if her MEP immunity is cancelled, which is likely.

Holy what the actual fuck. TW for extreme brutality:
source wrote:Police say enraged spectators invaded a football field, stoned the referee to death and quartered his body after he stabbed a player to death.

The Public Safety Department of the state of Maranhao says in a statement that it all started when referee Otavio da Silva expelled player Josenir Abreu from a game last weekend. The two got into a fist fight, then Silva took out a knife and stabbed Abreu, who died on his way to the hospital.

The statement issued this week says Abreu's friends and relatives immediately "rushed into the field, stoned the referee to death and quartered his body."

Local news media say the spectators also decapitated Silva and stuck his head on a stake in the middle of the field.

Police have arrested one suspect.
EDIT: I should mention this happened in Brazil, and that it happened in apparently a small area during a local game from what I'm seeing?

I think the only thing possible to say is "that escalated quickly." Just wow.
