Africa's Western Black Rhino is Now Officially Extinct, other rhino species facing similar fates.

I thought that species couldn't be officially extinct unless they have not had a sighting in 25 years.

They only recently announced a tree frog extinct after a last sighting in the late 80's.

Its a subspecies, I'm not sure if the rules are different. It can still be extinct from the wild if there aren't any outside of captivity that we can find. Apparently if I'm reading Wikipedia correctly, it was declared extinct in the wild in 2011, so i suppose the subspecies is truly extinct now. Black rhinos as a species have a threatened status.

Przewalski's Horse (thanks for the spell check, Google) was extinct in the wild, but its been reintroduced and is considered endangered. Reintroduction can save a species from extinct in the wild status but I don't think any such program existed for this particular subspecies. There are conservation programs for other rhinos though.

Following the ruling, she compared the jury to Soviets from the USSR and said this wouldn't stop her from saying THE TRUTH.
On May 21th, an old far right militant killed himself in Notre-Dame de Paris and left a note about how he did it to raise awareness against the legalization of gay marriage and to raise awareness of the perils of letting brown and black people immigrate. Marine Le Pen saluted his suicide and said he was right.
The same party has some scary ramifications, such as a militia that plans to kill all Muslim and Jewish people in France before moving on to the rest of the world and owns several schools where they teach kids revisionist history and nursery rhymes about sending Jews to Auschwitz.
