Apparently the US government is scrambling to put together criminal charges for this whole leak so they can begin extradition processes on the guy who did it.
Personally I think he did wrong by breaking contract, since he was part of a company, but would have done a greater wrong by just keeping quiet about it. He felt strongly enough about it that he gave up his entire life, his job, his girlfriend, his property, everything, to tell the world. Now he's hiding in Hong Kong talking with various journalists until he's inevitably caught, which he's also accepted is going to happen.

The ironic part is this about people wanting to keep their info private and the government is mad that their info got leaked.

I dont get why theyre even worried. Remember all that crap Wikileaks uncovered? Did anything even come of that? If people dont give a shit about WAR CRIMES, what makes illegal info collecting any more noteable?

It's more that the EU is now going to give them trouble, they don't seem too worried about what the general public thinks.

Hypocrytically, it's because it affects you. I like neither and I frequently voice my dislike for both, but it is easier to rally people for things that have an effect on their daily lives.

I found it amusing, though predictable, but sales of 1984 went up by about 3000% on Amazon when this news broke.
Brave New World is where it's at though. That's what's happening.

Wikileaks messed up and exposed some people who were still active in the field, if I recall correctly.

Yeah, that was my major issue with it I remember. Undercover agents, troop movements, names and details. I don't care what his intentions were, at least this whistleblower carefully pored over the documents so no one would be hurt.

Not a cop, the article that article links to says he's a part-time humane officer. They're not the same thing, even if he reports to police officers.
