The Current Events Thread
Re: The Current Events Thread
I know komo and OA live in mass, but I think I'm the only one in the immidiate area.
haven't been able to find too much out about it while I've been at work.
people coming through my line have been saying the usual ignorant nonsense that always comes about with this kind of thing

Apparently there's a fire at JFK Library and a bomb was found/went off at Mandarin Hotel? Unconfirmed, though.
Also apparently an undetonated bomb was found under the grand stand.

Re: The Current Events Thread
There was also a bomb reportedly in a nearby library (The JFK Presidential Library, maybe?), bringing the total to 3.
Someone caught footage of the bombs as they happened. Apparently they went off when the race was ending, so this might have been a calculated strike.
It also looks like the bombs went off on the side of the event, where the spectators are.

Re: The Current Events Thread
It's a marathon with thousands of participants, the first people across the line did so 3 hours before the bombs went off.
People still "racing" were redirected to a different location after the blasts.

lots of blood and disembodied limbs on TV right now, News cameras aren't being shy about this one

Re: The Current Events Thread
Propaganda doesn't work all that well if it isn't shocking.
I remember a news clip when I was younger. About year 1998-99 or so. The anchorman said that the pictures could be disturbing. It was a blurry video shot from a moving vehicle with some Norwegian soldiers shooting at rabid dogs at a range so the disease wouldn't spread. Things have changed.

If people STOP watching the masturbatory news that gorge themselves on gruesome details, then they'll stop showing it. People always say they hate channels that do it, yet somehow they cant stop themselves from wwatching.

It's kinda of like looking at a car wreck. It's hard to look away.TheStranger wrote:If people STOP watching the masturbatory news that gorge themselves on gruesome details, then they'll stop showing it. I do understand people that watch it though. I wouldn't say They like seeing bloody disembodied people and carnage, but it's what goes with the territory.

Re: The Current Events Thread
I'm mainly listening to the news for updates and whether this is all that's going to go off/all that was planned for, and trying not to watch. They've already apparently found two failed devices near the track, so there's potential for there to be more in other places. I'm going to be actively avoiding the follow up weeks of BS though.

Re: The Current Events Thread
The graphic stuff on the news doesn't really bother me so long as they're reporting what actually happened and not just grilling some poor bystander to give some sensational story (which maybe some news stations have been doing idk).
The problem is, we go so long without updates on the situation that the non-stop news channels inevitably have to find stuff to fill their time with, which usually results in BS filler, repeating the same footage over and over, finding new witnesses to pester, etc. I prefer to get my news from the internet rather than CNN. Anywhere where I can get just the facts and not wild speculation, you know?
