Well, there's also the issue of whether there are any non Catholic hospitals in the area.

I mean, I have like 2 (maybe 3) major hospitals within an hour of my place. If 2 of them refused me care for some reason, I'd have to travel farther to get treatment for things.

That's the question though. Did they deny her treatment or just the morning-after pill? Google Translate is horrible and I can't tell which.

Girl was on a party, wakes up on a park bench next day. Was scared that she got drugged so she goes to a hospital to make sure/collect evidence for possible charges etc.
She gets refused for any treatment because "that would also include talking about morning after pills". So she doesnt get treated at all.
And yeah if she goes to two catholic hospitals chances are thats because those are the only ones around.

I live in country that's historically Catholic and I had no idea that that was something some Catholic hospitals did (I refuse to believe that it's standard policy for all of them). I went to Catholic schools all my life and during sex ed and such the morning-after pill was also included. Even when we discussed abortion in religion class it was done from a neutral point of view.

The text also says that if any doctor would prescribe the morning after pill to someone, they'd lose their job.

So our school does not have a skip-day for Martin Luther King Day, but allows the few black student's to miss the day nonetheless.

Then this happened: http://arkansasmatters.com/fulltext/?nxd_id=629792

The entire school and town are outraged (myself included) because he made such a big deal and basically slandered the school.

To be fair I can see his point in that MLK Day is a federal holiday. Your school really should have had a skip day if it's a public one.

The teachers vote on what days to skip, since we only have a few days we can choose to be out. Since MLK Day was so close to the start of the semester, they decided it would be better to take President's Day off instead.

Also he's been going to the school for seven years, and now chose to say something about it.

It's a national holiday, right?
That's like going to school on christmas.

Yeah, but school holidays are decided more on convenience of scheduling and fitting with work/commute schedules than on actual importance of the holiday. I don't think federal holidays require schools or businesses to close.

It's a federal holiday that schools often choose to be closed on, sometimes to make faculty do much needed meetings. Banks and government offices have to be closed though, I think.

When I was in school, we got Labor Day, Thanksgiving, MLK, The odd President's Day, "Spring Break" (which was always different from everyone else ever), Good Friday, and the years we went late, Memorial Day.

We never got Arbor Day, Earth Day, Columbus Day (hell, most kids don't even know it's a thing), Veteran's Day, Pearl Harbor Day, or Patriot's Day (which I think is kinda stupid but apparently some places are actually observing it as a federal holiday despite it not being one?)

Speaking of, are Arbor Day and Earth Day actually considered federal holidays, or is it just an excuse for the local banks and post office here to close?

We got Veteran's Day but not Good Friday.

We also used to get the Monday after Easter.

Since, you know, most people travel and a good number are going out of state.

Now they took that away, and you can get in trouble for being truant.

Update on the kid, turns out he's constantly getting in trouble and is on probation, also his parents had no idea that he was going to skip, or where he was for the entire day.

I thought the news story said an adult was supervising him for the day?

Whoops, looks like someone's got some explaining to do.
