The Current Events Thread
Re: The Current Events Thread
I should know better than to read comments, but it makes me incredibly sad and angry when I see people still hating on the Japanese for the Second World War. So incredibly ignorant.

I understood that the US bombed Japan quite a lot, but I had no idea that it was to the point where finding undetonated bombs is this common.
Burn 'em to shreds, tear 'em to ashes.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki are really the only two bombing incidents talked about, due to the historical significance. Over 50% of Tokyo was destroyed by the end of WWII. That's how many bombs were dropped.
I try to avoid reading the comments on things involving Asia. I get irrationally angry when people refer to every asian as Chinese. Also, there are usually racist jokes everywhere and those don't sit well with me.

You must be at a different part of the internet, because all I ever seen is the hate shifted in the other direction. I'm not doubting it happens, I'm just...thankful...I guess?Dire wrote:I should know better than to read comments, but it makes me incredibly sad and angry when I see people still hating on the Japanese for the Second World War. Sometimes I take for granted how much ridiculousness I manage to avoid on the internet.

Always true, just replace the label on the y-axis with whatever controversial topic.

Most of Tokyo was destroyed by precise calculated firestorms set by the American military, not actual bombs. Though certainly the bombings did more obvious damage.[Citation Needed] wrote:Hiroshima and Nagasaki are really the only two bombing incidents talked about, due to the historical significance. In fact, the firestorms were much more deadly and destructive than either of the nuclear bombs.

Oh yeah, people sometimes find undetonated bombs here in Germany too. They're mostly in forests where they're not easily found. One was found on our town's graveyard a few years back, but it thankfully was completely harmless.BurntToShreds wrote:I understood that the US bombed Japan quite a lot, but I had no idea that it was to the point where finding undetonated bombs is this common.

A lot of bombs were duds because of cheap manufacturing, bad seals, and general construction issues.D-vid wrote:Oh yeah, people sometimes find undetonated bombs here in Germany too. Didn't help that we had tons of the daisies things and dropped them like bags of skittles because of how shitty our aim was.
Apparently there was a pilot that was a great shot with bombs though, and was able to drop them down chimneys.
Though, that might be some of that good ol' American "we won the war" bullshit.
Re: The Current Events Thread
Probably more something the drunk pilots said after the war to impress the ladies. Of course now, the simple fact that they were pilots was probably enough to get the job done.

Disney: soon, all media shall be as one, under our omnipotence.
