The Current Events Thread
Re: The Current Events Thread
Just remember that this election is secretly extremely important. No matter who wins, the economy will likely recover over the next few years. That means whichever party wins gets to take credit, and thus will also likely win the election of 2016.
In other words go for Obama unless you want another eight years of republicans.

Re: The Current Events Thread
See here's the thing, I despise them both just about equally and I vote on the merits of the candidate. I don't abide by party line because I don't belong to any of them. Telling me to vote for someone from one party for the reason that otherwise we'll have eight years of the other one is just going to piss me off.

Honestly, batman would probably do a better job running the country than most people anyway.

No, he should vote for a third party if he wants to. If people actually start doing that maybe they can eventually break the stupid two-party system.

Only if there is a third party candidate worth a daisies.
The past major third party candidates were jokes.

Yeah. I was thinking that he was debating between the two or no one else.Syobon wrote:No, he should vote for a third party if he wants to. If people actually start doing that maybe they can eventually break the stupid two-party system.

Re: The Current Events Thread
That doesn't exclude third parties. The voting system needs some serious reform though if third parties are ever gonna gain legitimacy.Syobon wrote:No, he should vote for a third party if he wants to. If people actually start doing that maybe they can eventually break the stupid two-party system.
Re: The Current Events Thread
I don't see how the voting system could be overhauled though without a full govermental overhaul.
And for the record, I'm in the exact same position as Madican.

Dropping the EC, or at least making it a per-distric vote, as opposed to the "Win the state" style we have now, would be a start.

As an outside observer, I'd say go for Obama in a heartbeat. Or if there is any 3rd party person that you think is kinda okay, take that person then.Kalekemo wrote:I don't see how the voting system could be overhauled though without a full govermental overhaul.

Just don't not vote at all, that's counter productive. Less votes for the better guys means more percent for the worse ones.

Someone tried to shoot our new Prime Minister the night she was elected and to set fire to the theater were she and her supporters were.

If no one earns your vote, you shouldn't vote for them. It's perfectly reasonable to not vote in certain categories when you don't agree with any of the people running.D-vid wrote:As an outside observer, I'd say go for Obama in a heartbeat. Voting against people is pretty daisies stupid and was the reason we got Bush in 2004, since people mainly DIDN'T want Kerry as president.
