Re: COSPLAY!
Yeah. If I ever got serious about making a costume, I would go down to Goodwill and check out their selection.saximaphone wrote:Thrift stores.

They definitely have a pretty random selection of clothing, and so it might be perfectly what you need.

Re: COSPLAY!
A lot of my cosplays were things that were pieced together. I did a Bubble Man costume and I went to ebay for a lot of it. I bought a costume from Milanoo and from what I've seen about that website, I'm the only person to get what was pictured on the page.
But back to the main point, ebay and thrift stores are going to be your best friends.

Re: COSPLAY!
At last year's A-kon I went as Professor Layton. Got the suitcoat and orange sweater thing at Goodwill (something like $8 for both). Pants and shoes were already owned.saximaphone wrote:Thrift stores.

All I made was the hat. ~$2 poster board, ~$10 can of black spray paint.
So an entire cosplay for ~$20.
So yeah, thrift stores are great. Especially if it's a simple cosplay (like Layton, heh) or something set in modern times or that uses a lot of modern clothes. Even if you're just getting things as a base to alter/add to, it's a lot better than making it from scratch.

Re: COSPLAY!
since we're not going to a midyear con this year i've decided to undertake a cosplay project i've wanted to do for a year or so now but never really had time/forgot about:
payday crew
aka: fuck me up the booty i can't sculpt or paint and i don't know how to tie a tie
stay tuned for photos of my incredible journey into learning how to properly sculpt clay, perform a resin cast, paint complicated details, and try to fit my lady body into a men's suit in a way that doesn't make me look like a lady wearing a men's suit
so far i have measured my head, wrapped my wig head in plastic wrap, misplaced my plaster bandaging, and purchased sculpting tools. maybe tonight i'll find the plaster bandaging and get to work on making my wig head more the proper size to use as an armature.
i have this feeling that i am diving right into the deep end here but that's kind of how we do it in my house. i mean kyle's first cosplay involved a custom-made floor length trench coat, and his second cosplay involved another, more complicated, floor length trench coat, with lots of tiny details. so i mean. we're pretty used to it.
