What do you guys do to calm down?
I'm taking "calm down" as calming down after getting angry or upset, is that right? I try to laugh as best as I can in the moment, sometimes by just taking a bad joke or finding something completely crazy on the internet or YouTube to make me laugh or go 'awww' or fill me with any other emotion than the one that was bothering me before. Talking to people IRL is best though, especially people who care about you.
And I need another bit of advice about dealing with my 12-year old violence lovin' cousin. He's.. a handful, I'll tell you. Sometimes he's a good kid, he does what he's told and will get along okay at times, but otherwise.. no. He loves his violent video games, like TF2 or L4D, and he yells at them all the time. But anyway, he has this pent-up anger issue and it's horrible, like he bangs on his keyboard or says things like "if I could just throw this laptop at the wall I would be so pop flyin'". He also slaps me and tells me how good it felt to do that.
He has these anxiety attacks where he falls onto the ground practically screaming, and we ask him if he needs help and he refuses. Lately he's been doing it around when something doesn't go his way, so I think he's just acting spoiled.
There are things I know I can't change about him, but I need to find a way to deal with him. He probably beats on me the most because he knows I'm more neutral about it. He shushes me, calls me "stupid Poots" and occasionally tries to whack me or make fun of me. So now I need to get on my defenses, but I don't want to ruin my cousin for god's sake. What should I do?

Geez
Have you ever wrote a 3-page paper from scratch in 3 hours without a single break (except to flip through pages in the texbook you're reading) while you have carpal tunnel and a growing neck/shoulder cramp? It is not fun.
my eyes feel like they are turning to stone
and I still have studying for a test to do, and an optional study session in 15 minutes which I should really go to even though I still have tons of studying to do.
What is the best way to unwind in between work sessions? Also take into account that I'm on campus and it takes 45 minutes to drive home so I can't just like, go home and take a nap or something.
actually, you know what? I'm probably not going to this first study session because I can spend that time writing notes and I am SICK AND TIRED OF SITTING AT A DESK ALL DAY AURGH

@Poots: As much as I hate to agree with what Malum said, it really honestly doesn't sound like you can do anything to make the situation worse. There was a period of time when I babysit 10-12 kids for six hours at a time two or three times a week, and none of them were nearly that bad.
I think the best thing to do is just tough discipline. If he hits you, grab his arm (not hard. Never EVER hurt a child. Not that I'd think you would), look him straight in the eyes and tell him, very bluntly, that he can't do that. Not that he SHOULDN'T do that, but that he absolutely canNOT. Just stand up to him. If he continues (or does the screaming thing), lock him in a room and just ignore him. Negatively acting out is best cured with a lack of attention.
@Angie: Campuses usually have an area with ping pong and pool tables. Both are very light physical activity that require minimal academic thought. Because of those two things, I've found that those things (particularly pool in my case) is fantastic if you need to relax and only have a short time to do it.
@Riku: Does he still post? If not, I'd do your best to find out why he's not on the forum anymore. If he does, my best advice would be to find someone you trust and ask them to be your advocate, speaking to him through them, and apologizing that way. I wish you luck, my friend.

I wouldn't lock a kid in a room, but putting him in a room would probably work.
Also Riku if this is who I think it is: he doesn't seem to come on that often, that might be why.

Well... when I said "lock", I didn't mean it be all... dungeon-y.

Ah, I fixed it. I think he was just dealing with some crap and didn't want to bother me by being down in a conversation. Although, he still seemed kind of irratable and depressed-ish everywhere else, so I don't know how well that worked, but anyway, yeah. It's all good now.

Good! I'm glad it worked out for you, and I hope what I said helped, at least a bit.
