I used to know this family with the last name "Cartier". Like the jewelry, and the explorer. (they're related to both, actually).

They got EVERYTHING.
Car-tee-er, Carter, Car-teer, etc.

Everything EXCEPT how it is pronounced. CAR-TEE-AY.

tl;dr most Americans have little to piss experience with French pronunciation.

Yeah I wouldn't name my kid for some stupid gimmick like that; I don't want my kid to be picked on. Although I have thought of three names for boys and three for girls, if anyone cares enough for me to post them.

Man, you wouldn't believe. There are a few Finnish people named Anu Saukko, Saukko meaning "otter", but "anusaukko" meaning "anus hole". I'm serious.
