You could for example emulate a gameboy advance or run linux on it.
It basically makes the hardware on it actually yours, as now you can do whatever you want with it.

This one time I went to a library some jerk came in and was playing music loudly and was talking to his friend loudly and I could see that everyone within earshot was mad at this guy, so I said to him "Hey! This is a library. If you want to be loud then do it elsewhere."

He rolled his eyes and made a "pfshh" sound and promptly left without saying or doing anything else. (it looked like he was going to pound me when he was leaving)
And once he was gone everyone thanked me for making him leave.
