Don't drive straight into end of the world bullshit

Let them just walk around and kill some orcs and local nuisances before you drop any real plot on them.

Ideas: Have the party deal with Kobold grunts attacking local farms, give them a task oftracking down pickpockets, give them bounty letters for hunting down highwaymen, etc. Before you assign them the serious stuff, like fighting garrisons of orcs and stuff.

Also as a DM you're going to hear the weirdest shit ever. Things like putting all equipment into a bag of holding and stuffing the bag up someone's booty so when the party is arrested they don't lose their stuff.

I tricked my DM into giving me a Golem Manual.
I made 7 flesh golems in addition to my 2 pre-existing cohorts.
It resulted in me playing 10 characters at once.
I almost got away with it.
He ended up killing all but one of my followers.
He reads item descriptions very carefully now.
