Wow. I noticed that almost 600 of my posts are in General Shenanigans. I really should make an effort to post elsewhere.
...Starting off, of course, by posting in General Shenanigans.

On adult work, PurpleKecleon is a really good artist.
But then I saw that she draws porn, and WHAT KIND OF PORN. As good as she is, I just... I know it's going to sound harsh, but I lost all my respect towards her and I can't really take her serious anymore.
There is an artist on FA, Muttmonster, she draws nice stuff. And then on the bad day I had where I accidentally forgot to turn my mature content filter back on, I saw that she got a secondary account for
Uh
Yeah. Lets not get into it. (Also where I got that signature from with "WOAH WHAT IS THIS INNOCENCE BROKEN")
Mmmh lets see... well, those two cases are people whom I've thought who are 'clean', it's not like I lost interest in them, but it's just hard for me to look at their works nowadays. If I would've known beforehand that they do some graphic stuff here and there, okay, I wouldn't have minded that much. I guess what I'm trying to say is, you shouldn't seperate too much, otherwise the one or other viewer might become pretty shocked, as they didn't think you'd be that kinda guy.
But you already got some adult material on your page, so it's neither surprising nor that bad, since it's not really, uh, "HOLY SHIT WHAT AM I LOOKING AT" graphic hardcore omg xxx stuff. I mean, I'm gonna drop out on looking at that new piece, even when you say that it's probably the best picture you've drawn so far, but that is just because of me as a person, as I greatly dislike looking at such stuff.
I guess I'm going to sound like I have a 'higher than thou' attitude, or anything else, but often when I (unwillingly) come across an adult/pron picture, and it's drawn really well, I can't help but think "You've got so much talent, and you decide to draw this?" I don't think there is a way to properly explain myself without sounding like I'm full of prejudices, but well, there are just all kinds of different people in the world.

Then again this whole discussion would be better off in the TMI thread IMO

I know that I might lose respect from a few people here; I remember Odds saying something about losing respect for someone who draws adult stuff when I brought this up before.
But I think in some ways it's that which has been contributing to my artistic block - trying to please everyone and not being true to myself.
I personally don't take offense to what anybody draws or sculpts (and I have seen some highly controversial pieces); I know at their core a lot of artists are very damaged people, so I won't judge them on the content of their work, but rather the skill with which they produce it.
So I'm sorry if I accidentally offend or disappoint anyone here - that's the last thing I want to do.
I will need to produce some non-adult pieces of high quality at some point - for portfolio purposes, but I am highly doubtful that I will be able to make money out of my artwork through anything other than commissions for the time being - adult work being one of the more lucrative areas for commissioning (not that I'm only doing this for money).

I'm pretty positive my cat has a urinary tract disorder.
Her piss is orange, she pisses outside of the litterbox WAY more than usual (she only usually does it about once every two weeks, now it's almost once a day) and other shit.

I think 'losing respect' for an artist only because the artist feels like doing adult material is silly. There is nothing wrong with disliking sexual content, but sexual content doesn't remove any legitimacy from the work and thought that go into a drawing. Artistic expression takes many forms, and deciding that adult drawings aren't art is very pretentious.

I'm with Great Handsome Oppressor, I think. This is up to you, and if people start "losing respect" for you for creating adult art, then their respect might not be worth it.

I agree. DND, if you want to draw adult stuff, then do so. Don't let other people keep you from doing what you love. How you handle showing your artwork and building your reputation as an artist, is a different matter. It's something you have to figure out yourself, based on what you want to do in the future. I think if you focus on adult artwork, you have a larger chance of finding an economic "niche", which will give you an easier path to living off your art. However, you'll probably never become really big this way, as the niche is quite small and appalling to some people. If you focus on normal artwork, it's the reverse, you'll have more trouble finding a niche and more trouble living off your work initially. If you do break through and start getting recognition, you can become much bigger.
Making adult artwork under alias just to give you an income can be as solution I guess. But if you do become big, people are going to find out eventually and that could cause trouble.
These are just my thoughts on this, but I don't really know that much about art and art community, so take them for what they are.

I've already spoken to people about working under alias and have considered it carefully; The likelihood is that I will be found out in the long term and creating an alias suggests that I have something to hide, which could give somebody the impression that they could have leverage over me (blackmail).
I'm not afraid of my real name being tied to this kind of artwork; I've known artists irl who have made a living out of doing adult work and have been upfront and honest about it, which is what I intend to do - and I will meet any consequences head on, with no shame or regret.
I'm going to work on adult artwork for now, but that does not mean I am going to dump my graphic novel or webcomic projects, it's just that I am tired of being deadlocked by trying to tiptoe around everyone's expectations of me - I need to start being productive again and this is the only outlet which is working for me atm (I think part of this is psychological).
I expect my graphic novel and/or webcomic to become lucrative and/or highly recognisable products in the future - but they will not be damaged by me doing adult work in the here and now.
But I need to think carefully about submitting adult work to dA - I think I stand to do more damage than good if I submit this kind of material there.
I appreciate all of your comments on this btw. Thank you.

Is there anything stopping you from posting on FA in the meantime?

I'm going to start using my new logo on this artwork but I haven't introduced that on my FA account yet*; My webcam tomorrow will be based on my logo changing**, so for the sake of continuity I'm going to submit my webcam there first to avoid confusion with the new logo being used.
I want to consider posting the image on dA while I'm at work tonight - it's a decision I need to 'meditate on' further, so if I do decide to submit the image on both accounts I'll do it in tandem (at the same time).
*I generally don't submit logo designs to my FA account, which gives you some idea of how I use the accounts differently already.
**I also think part of me changing/adapting my logo is to do with me coming to terms with stuff like this, but I won't go into a Freudian deconstruction of what I think the changes in my logo represent.

You may have the wrong idea about what I will be submitting tomorrow, Exeres - just as a warning.
There will be monsters with tits later on though, no doubt.

I agree with what's been posted so far. If people lose respect for you for doing adult art, they're jackasses. It's fine if they don't like it but doing it doesn't make you a bad person by any means.
You're probably better off not submitting it to dA, though; dA is, well... dA, and you could get in trouble for adult art.
