AWKWARD ZOMBIE

Ended up with about $700 from graduation, 500 of which were from my grandparents.
Same grandparents now offering to buy me a laptop, which I had been planning on getting with the grad cheddar, among other things.
Feel kind of bad about it.

Plus, holy crap I don't have the first idea what to look for in a laptop, one in the $4-500 range or less. I know I love the one I have now, but it's like ten years old and has a 29 gb hard drive. It runs great after I've fixed it up, but has a broken hinge and other such physical problems and a crappy battery. But I love how it works. It has both a touchpad and button-thingy mouse, with two sets of mouse buttons that I end up using equally. It's a square screen, and I don't like the newer, wider ones, and I've messed around with newer laptops and don't like some of the newer touchpads because they have a tendency to screw up and jump around.
So I'm going to be hard to please on finding one since they all have those same features now.
And I am going to miss Windows XP so much. SO MUCH.


But aside from my complaining, anyone have any suggestions on laptops? Which ones to avoid, which ones are good, etc?

Get a dell laptop. good price, fair amount of features, and of course, windows 7.

Yeah mine was a dell. Lemme see...it was this one and I love it.

Wish I could find something like that, but all the new ones are the same design nowadays. I don't know about how the newer ones operate, though, which is why I'm asking for advice. I know Acer sucks, but that's about it. Is Dell still good, then?

Dell is still good. I got a desktop and a laptop from them with little to no problems. i say go for dell.

No Dell. Stay away from Dell. They have cheap parts, as in quality, for maximum price.

Get an ASUS. Good quality, good reputation, haven't had a problem with mine.

I have never had problems with any Dell ever.

i don't know shit about dell but my dad has an ASUS laptop that does what it's supposed to fairly well.

also if you're gonna make a computer decision based on what other people think is good then you should get a group of more than like, 3.

Yeah I was just throwing it out there, I plan on researching it myself before getting one. But thanks for the ideas. :]

but in all seriousness, I think the / actually means that it's either one of the things on the sides of it, hence and/or means it might be one or it might be both.

I have a Dell laptop that I've had for...somewhere around 5 years and I've only had two problems with it: it apparently got a trojan and the hard drive borked and I had to replace it with a bigger one that it needed anyway because the original was only 140gb. And 2 it onlY turns on if its plugged in because it needs a new battery. Other than that I have never had issues with it ever. Tuxedo Mask's family uses Dell desktops and they've not had issues either.


Though, ASUS is better quality all around and if there's one you can afford (idk how much cheaper laptops go these days; I just know my mother's Toshiba was $500 haha,) I'd get the ASUS. Dell is fairly cheap but if you're not looking for anything spectacular I don't think they're a bad choice at all. Each brand will have their occasional duds. I personally have never had issue with a Dell. Compaq...always. Dell, never.

I've had an Acer for about four years, and it doesn't seem to give me any problems, it only got a Trojan once a couple years back because AVG let it in.

My friends husband has an Asus though, I agree that they are pretty good from what I've seen of his. A lot of people say Alienware is really good too, but I don't know personally, other people tell me they aren't worth it.

there is no doubt in my mind that what you are looking for is actually the ASUS Eee slate.
