A lot of discomfort for comedian material though comes from the knowledge that while you're laughing because of how outlandish they're making something out to be, to someone else they're taking it as fact and affirmation of their beliefs.

True. You have to be careful when making jokes about particularly sensitive things, as it's possible for your jokes to normalize your subject material. That said, there is a big difference between making jokes about something and treating something as a punchline, and the former is usually a lot safer than the latter, even though it can still require some care when addressing certain topics. It reminds me of what I saw on Tumblr (yeah, I know, bear with me) a lot around the time Deadpool came out. While I saw a lot of people taking time to warn each other that there were rape jokes in the movie, I never saw anyone bringing this up as a point against the film. On the contrary, I saw people praising the movie for how its rape jokes were made explicitly at the expense of rapists and none of them treated rape as a punchline.

Reminds me of Wanda Syke's comedy bit about "wouldn't it be nice if our pussies were detachable?"

For reasons that escape me, I was picked as the one guy to be put in charge of supporting our Client while they deploy our software that's bodaciously worth a quarter of a billion dollars and it involves talking over the phone in real time to human beings so I am perhaps the least qualified person (I've never had a cell phone and never will and I don't even have a regular phone in my apartment and I like it that way).
Of course today my headset went kablooee during a meeting right when people were talking directly to me so I had to resolve to my desk phone and navigating through a shitty IDE with a million files and logging into the 12 layers of password protection necessary to reach it is not easy with only one hand while also listening to ten grainy disembodied voices I don't recognize asking me why this very specific business thing happened this way and not that way.
I was shaking while driving back home.
Oh well there's only like one month of nothing but that all day every day and perhaps more later on :(

What do you do in an emergency without a cellphone?

Pretty sure going on a forum and asking isn't the first thing you should do.
Seriously, though, it all depends on the situation. Are we talking about anything specific?

As someone of Native American heritage without a phone of any kind: smoke signals.
Don't blame me; I voted for Kodos.

While I don't mind your answers, my question was in response to Obnosim's post if that wasn't clear :P

That is many more rabbits! So much floofiness to adore before they morph into deliciousness. (I haven't actually had rabbit, so I assume it's good, but know nothing other than it apparently being quite lean?)
While you have gained 17 rabbits, I have lost as many degrees on my weather's daily average temperature over the past week. (Cori, you moved just in time to avoid the 0 to -12 degree nights.)

What would you consider an emergency?Syobon wrote:What do you do in an emergency without a cellphone?
I never leave my apartment except to go to work / the grocery store and those do not involve going outside of the city. If I had a car problem or something I could just step out and ask anyone passing by or go into any store.
The one time I leave the city is to go back to my hometown every few weeks, and that's at most an hour of driving along a fairly busy highway where I could also ask any passerby, though I wouldn't rely on a cellphone there anyway because reception is spotty in rural areas in Canada.
I live in an apartment complex so if I ever got hurt or something I could just ask my neighbors or the janitor.
I don't really have any friends so there's never a situation where I have to talk to someone right now. There aren't a lot of things in my inactive lifestyle that can't be done through email and those all involve calling during business hours, where I'm at work and have access to my work phone anyways.
Perhaps real people have valid use cases for cell phones but to me they're just expensive shiny toys used to ignore people around you in a socially-accepted-but-still-rude way (which I can do just fine for free already) and consume low-grade media in the least practical way (which I'm not terribly interested in).

I would like to point out that many of the people you are referring to with this could generally apply the same rule to their PCs.Obnosim wrote: Perhaps real people have valid use cases for cell phones but to me they're just expensive shiny toys used to ignore people around you in a socially-accepted-but-still-rude way (which I can do just fine for free already) and consume low-grade media in the least practical way (which I'm not terribly interested in).
