I'm guessing there will probably be several recounts in the states that were within 1% of either side, but we will forever be apologizing for the diplomatic clusterfuck that will be the next eighteen months.

I'm not angry, at least not right now.

I'm just sad.

Except for the people who say that this is a victory for the silent majority who were too afraid to speak out. I'm definitely mad about that. Get the fuck out of here with that weak booty shit.

guys can we stop freaking out for one moment.

Trump won't be able to get shit done. At all. Most of the republican party hates him because he sort of blew away the facade that "Hey, we here Republican Politicians aren't racist! Seriously!" and for just in general shitting all over his other Republicans. Furthermore, his ideas are either too grandiose to realize (Building a wall lul), or too stupid to be taken seriously (deporting 2 million illegal immigrants when there's only about 178,000 illegals actually recorded, ok, yep, uh huh).

At the very worst, our economy is fucked for a bit, we get a bit too lenient with Russia, and we regress in terms of social policy. Bad, for sure, but not doomsday shit.

Just pray to dear lord he doesn't get assassinated because Pence is 50 times worse than Trump.

I personally can't imagine the other two branches of government allowing the majority of the things he promised.
Don't blame me; I voted for Kodos.

I'm less worried about what Trump and Pence can do and more about the precedent they set.

Our leaders(not directly but through implication) say it's OK to hate Muslims, hate immigrants, hate gay and trans people, hate journalists, hate anyone who isn't just like you, so hey, it's OK for me too.

Those feelings of xenophobia and racism have always been present in our population. Neither a Trump nor Hilary presidency would've changed that. Trump being elected does not mean people are going to magically turn racist overnight, it just means their gonna be a hell of a lot more vocal about their racism.

Which again, sucks, but it's not the end of the USA.

This. Sloth and I were just talking about how we're now in that weird juxtaposition where even the people who don't want him in office have to hope he doesn't get removed during the term, or else we have to deal with someone who is just a more polite supervillain.

I'm honestly hoping that something snaps/clicks in the next few months (rather than the full 18 I previously predicted it would take) and he realizes that he needs to chill the fuck out. There is a chance that he'll back down from the more outlandish claims he made and actually be a decent president on the legislation front, even if he's a terrible person in an individual context. I'm not going to bet cheddar on it, but there is a chance.

I'm pretty sure that figure includes unrecorded illegal immigrants.

Well, not really, electing the guy does kind of send the message that it's ok to be a sexist douchebag.

They're not going to turn racist but the ones who already are are going to feel validated.

Following Brexit, attacks on immigrants skyrocketed for example.

Yeah. Some of us can relax. I'll just quote what I wrote in the Current Events thread.
Brekkjern wrote:International relations and NATO support is what worries me, and I don't think Americans really understand how big of a deal that is.

I live in a country that borders Russia. That in of itself isn't all that damning, except for the incidents in Crimea and Georgia. The issue Russia has though is that they don't have any harbours in the Atlantic Ocean that wont freeze over during winter, which makes them vulnerable on the western front and reduces their ability for force projection. They do have a harbour in Sevastopol, but that could easily be blockaded in 3 different spots preventing them from using it in a war.

Norway has one of the longest coastlines in the world. There are plenty of places to make harbours and we have made a few ourselves. It's no wonder that Russia is stepping up their activities in the North Sea. If they were to invade and hold Norway they would not only get access to a large coastline, but also a large amount of oil. Both things the Russian war machinery desperately needs, especially since the sanctions for the invasion of Crimea and Ukraine.

Our fear is that Trump will step down their support of NATO and maybe not bother to come to our aid in a smaller scale invasion. Sure, if Russia sets their sights on occupying the entire Scandinavian Peninsula I would expect the US and the rest of NATO to respond, but what if they only take the most northern areas? Will NATO bother to risk a full scale war for that? The reality is that it could trigger an all out nuclear war. Is it worth it?

The thing to be most worried about at the moment seems to be the environmental impact of his policies. He's already appointed a climate change denier as the head of EPA and wants to move the US out of the Paris agreement.
