Bees arent a problem, all they can do is sting you once and then die, and they'll go out of their way to not do that, but wasps are bad news.LucarioLuvsMinecraft wrote:So. On my way home from school.

It was yellow. It looked like a giant bee. About the size of the Asian Giant Wasp.
I am scared to death of bees and anything like them, but a normal person would have done the same in my situation.

Yea bees are bros. They're also going extinct which is going to fuck the ecosystem up pretty badly.
Mosquitoes and wasps can go straight to hell though.

Honestly, after a while, you start to get sick of the fucking ecosystem that cant handle anything. "Oh no, you're wiping out the spot-dicked tree fucker or whatever". Yes, I know honeybees are way more important, but after a while, it all starts to blend together, and its getting annoying to read alarmist reports about every fucking bug and lizard that cant handle the slightest change in their ecosystem. Humans are dicks, but atleast they know how to survive. We've gone through, what, three extinction events not counting the one we're causing right now? Do we have to babysit every fucking species that cant handle the slightest change?Granny Benson wrote:Yea bees are bros. Alright, are you going to stop using products made with modern pesticides? Oh, whats that? Our food crops are besieged at bodaciously every second by locusts and fungus that we have to keep from devouring our fucking food by poisoning them and other bugs are not magically immune to it? SHOCKING! Its almost like nature is a fucking arms race where humanity is beset at all sides by hordes of insects and viruses that we have to wipe out just to keep from starving to death while covered in weeping sores!Galaxy Man wrote:less "babysit" and more "hey guys lets maybe stop killing them en masse by fucking everything up all the time?"TheStranger wrote:Do we have to babysit every fucking species that cant handle the slightest change?

Calm down.
Also, the increasing wariness of environmental harm by pesticides is what fuels the development of GMO crops, so that they could hopefully make pesticides obsolete, as well as make staple crops easier to grow in regions beset by long-term drought.
Acknowledging that we could potentially change the environment in a way that is actively harmful to other species in a way that could be harmful to us in the long run is hardly the bleeding heart, tree-hugging, lost cause you have made it sound like you think it is.
Yeah, sometimes other species just can't keep up with change. It happened before us, it happened during early eras that we could hardly be considered the root cause of (except for a few possible instances of overhunting, I suppose), and it will continue to happen now that we are developed enough to more drastically alter our environment, and will happen long after we are gone.
But that doesn't mean we should just disregard any responsibility for attempting to slow our effect on the environment. Especially if we like the resources we have right now, and the lifestyles/industries that they accommodate. Adapting to our environment is different from being the ones responsible for burning it out.

I am scared to death of bees. I didn't say I wanted 'em all dead. I just wish they would stay 3 feet away from all my body parts.

You've got a shockingly horrendous grasp on ecosystems and how they work. Humans introduce many heavy handed approaches to maintaining ourselves and keeping nature out of our crops. Ecosystems aren't weak (and in fact, they can be very resilient), its just they are horrendously incompatible with our protective and preventative measures for our crops because we designed them to do exactly that. Its like comparing a laser guided bomb to cluster bombing. Yeah, cluster bombing does way more damage, is guaranteed to take out your target but you've got collateral damage. Pesticides are the same and while on an individual area its small, it adds up significantly with the size of crops. Its one thing for nature to adapt to droughts, heavy rain, colder temps, etc but it takes time. Using an arms race metaphor is bunk because humans can quickly just create some new chemical or device relatively quickly while evolution, selective breeding, and biological resistances are very effective, they take MUCH longer. Its like saying those fuckin Aztecs were so fragile and weak because they couldn't just ADAPT to the smallpox the Spanish brought over.TheStranger wrote:Alright, are you going to stop using products made with modern pesticides? It's pretty unfair to expect other species to be as fucking awesome as humans are.

But then you have those darn elves and their superiority complex coming in to crash all the parties.
