The 2 dollar coin is bigger than the 1 dollar coin thanks to its rim.

2 dollar is bigger than 1 dollar, which is bigger than quarter, which is bigger than dime, but then the dime has to go and fuck it all up by being the smallest coin when we still have a nickle and penny left.

The English way seems to much more simple

2 pound coin is the largest and is equal to 200 pennies.
1 pound coin is the 2nd largest and equal to 100 pennies.
50p (pence, singular of pennies) is the 3rd largest and octagonagal in shape.
20p is the 5th largest.
10p is the 4th largest.
5p is the smallest.
1p is just a bit bigger than the 5p coin.
