my brother yelled at me for listening to shinedown one day because they're "mainstream"
then the same day i hear him blasting kanye west out of his room
i lol'd.
also lately i haven't been able to eat anything for breakfast or lunch, even if i have my favorite foods as an option. the only thing keeping me alive at school is mint oreo cookies, and i'm either going to run out of those or they're gonna stop tasting good
i'd like to eat some poptarts for breakfast but i finish getting ready for school so close to the time i have to leave i never have time to stop and eat something
and yeah lol poptarts on the go but THEN I'LL BE THIRSTY AND THEY LEAVE A BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH

What the fuck. Get lost. It's not because it's indie that it's hipster or that it sounds bad.
Meguroko wrote:Independent, as in no record label. Meaning no one would dare put them on one.
Still doesn't mean they're bad bands. It means that the label wouldn't make as much cheddar as they would with the usual shit they ram down our ears on the radio. It's not because it's not popular or commercial that it's shit.

Usually artists who announce themselves as part of the "indie scene" are attempting to become popular without having to commit to a label though. There are lots of rather famous experiemental music composers who've never been on a label, but you don't see them in a concert opening for The Shins.

Being woken up at 7am by the fire alarm and having it go on continously for 15 minutes only to discover some prick started it for no reason is not fun >:I

My sister went to this try-out-this-college weekend thing at the state's university. While asleep in the dorm towers, someone pulled the fire alarm (for no reason), and they had to
walk down 13 floors worth of stairs, because the fire alarm shuts down the elevators.
Fire department showed up, searched the building, no problem, everyone went back to bed.
I laughed when she told me. She wasn't as amused. :>

Maybe that's because labels are (wait for it) cheddar-grabbing, artistic freedom-hating bastards, and because bands make way more cheddar with concerts and stuff that by selling CDs.
There's a difference between saying "we're an indie band" to try and get popular with stupid hipsters that want to be omg so different, and saying "we're an indie band" because you don't want your music to become a commercial item and want to have total artistic control over what you do.

Yes, and he's talking about this type.

I had raged and gone to sleep after that to clear my head. Woke up at 6, just in time to pick Tuxedo Mask up from work. When I got home, she had bought me cookies and was chatting to me and talking about the kittens like nothing had ever happened.
So much emotional whiplash.

Well, these aren't bands.

I am being a bit vague--basically my main problem with the average indie band is that they constantly talk about "not selling out" and "not going commercial" when their music is just as commercial, if not more than the modern day musician with a label. Specifically my reason for this lies in the disgusting indie concert festival scene where a bunch of "omg so different" bands get together to do exactly what kind of lifestyle they do not support--which is making cheddar and sounding exactly the same as the band following them.
