I also despise Smurfs. I don't know why. It seems like I'm compelled to hate tiny, blue elf knockoffs. Speaking of elf knockoffs, I also hate Tingle.
Well, Smurfs is anti-capitalism, and pro-socialism.Paranoid Android wrote:I also despise Smurfs.
Okay, see, I know this might be a bit of a stretch, but I think it might have something to do with the fact that they're easier to draw, or the fact that they're generally cuter.Karilyn wrote:upstanding members of society that get all elitist and try to act like the primary draw to the upstanding member of society fandom isn't the porn.

Yay propaganda.
Yes, well, upstanding members of society do allow people to be more flexible with the anatomy than with hentai. The big problem with hentai, IMO, is because it is drawings of humans, flaws in anatomy stand out very badly. But I don't think that has a whole lot to do with anything other than the more wide acceptance of poor artists in the upstanding member of society community.Plasma wrote:Okay, see, I know this might be a bit of a stretch, but I think it might have something to do with the fact that they're easier to draw, or the fact that they're generally cuter.Karilyn wrote:upstanding members of society that get all elitist and try to act like the primary draw to the upstanding member of society fandom isn't the porn.
Because I'm lazy, I'll just copy-paste from TVTropes.Plasma wrote:Buh-wuh-what? By that, do you mean anything other than "they live in an egalitarian society"?Karilyn wrote:Well, Smurfs is anti-capitalism, and pro-socialism. Yay propaganda.
Some people see The Smurfs as communist propaganda. At the very least, their Utopia has quite a few similarities with communism. They don't use cheddar, are nearly identical, nameless (identified only by job), sexless, and their primary antagonist is a Franciscan friar lookalike who wants to turn them into gold (or eat them). One episode with an attempt to use cheddar ended disastrously, and Brainy Smurf was tossed out of the village again.
The can also been seen as fascists; mainly because of the anti-intellectualism (Brainy), and anti-Semitism (Gargamel resembles a classic Jewish caricature, and the gold yourself). Plus Fascists also emphasize conformity and tend to be misogynistic; plus, Smurfette's redemption comes through acceptance of traditional gender roles, not rejection of them.
I never thought about it this way... either the creators did a good job making it all rather subtle, or it's the typical phenomenon that someone reads more into it then intended. Anyways, what has been read can't be unread @_@Some people see The Smurfs as communist propaganda. At the very least, their Utopia has quite a few similarities with communism.
