This is why you turn it sideways.
Most toasters have these tongs that secure bread in place. Turning it sideways is not going to stop them from firmly gripping sticky cheese.

Most toasters have these tongs that secure bread in place. Turning it sideways is not going to stop them from firmly gripping sticky cheese.
They're usually not very well done tongs, meant for keeping it in place while it's right side up.
Turn it sideways, the tong with the bread gets pressed down, and the other just dangles above.
