I feel like I really missed out on comics when I was a kid. Like, had I gotten into them when I was younger I'd still be into it now, but since I haven't, I'm not. I don't really plan on trying to get into it now though.

A large portion of the "nerdy" things I care about now came about because of movies. Applies to pretty much the entire superhero genre as well as Star Trek, off the top of my head. Though I did end up watching some of the original Star Trek after seeing the movie.

I think it's okay to be a superfan of something even if you only got into it later, when it became more famous. The Genwunners etc out there get on my nerves. There's something to be said for sticking with a series your whole life, and having nostalgia for old stuff, but you should be pop flyin' your favorite book/movie/game/show is popular with new people.

I got into comics back in the 90s. Back when Superman was a blue guy made out of energy for some reason. It was pretty cool.
But comics are a bit rarer here than in America. You have to go to big book stores to even see any most of the time.
But we had Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck comics. Those are pretty rad too.

Comics are something I'd like to be into, but it seems like it'd be a lot of work to catch up and stay current with them.

Nah, I got into comics only two years ago, it's no big deal if you don't know all the ins and outs of continuity. And all the must-reads don't really require any prior reading (Sandman, Swamp Thing, Kingdom Come,...). If you do want to follow continuity, there's some good reading lists available online andthe DC universe has completely rebooted last year.

Alright, I'll bookmark that and check into it sometime when I've got more free time. Probably in the summer. Only comics I've ever read was the Joe Kelly run of Deadpool after he seemed to get popular recently.

Because I haven't read many comic books, it punched Watchmen in the face and become my "number one so far". It's so great. It has an incredible ambiance and is extremely visually impressive. I especially like how different in tone the chapters can be, while still resonating with each others and with the main character.
I haven't read all of Swamp Thing, though, the last volume I have ends at the beginning of the "American Gothic" storyline (that's what wikipedia calls it). I really want to read more but I haven't been able to find more volumes of the edition I received as a present. I feel like looking it up again though.

It's my number one as well. Alan Moore basically created the modern American horror comic with it.

When it comes to Alan Moore it's gotta be League of Extraordinary Gentlemen for me.

Absolutely amazing stuff
Or, y'know, whatever.

I don't like that some people think space exploration should be a priority. Okay, it has an objective scientific value, but I can't get excited about reality TV shows set on Mars or some guy blowing millions dollars to spend a week in space when millions of people are starving or dying of diseases that are easy to prevent and that all of that wasted cheddar could be used to actually improve the world.
To clarify, I'm okay with funding NASA and stuff. What I don't like is people reacting positively when the news are glorifying some space tourist or raving about sending people to Mars permanently and filming them for our entertainment.

Better graphics (Even with the GBA remakes), better music, smoother controls, better powerups and it has mother fucking Yoshi in it. But everyone says SMB3 is the superior one...
Really? I thought the popular opinion was that Super Mario World was better than Super Mario Bros. 3, for all those reasons plus the massive amount of secret paths making it last longer. I personally prefer SMB3, but that's because it was my first 2D Mario ever, I never really played Super Mario World much and I've beaten 3 enough to know pretty much every level.

Except for that fucking last mini-fortress in World 8.

I like them about the same. 3 was harder though, so I play it more for the challenge. But, I like all the cool stuff in smw, like the alternate paths and hidden levels and stuff.
