Re: Art Thread
I like your facial expressions

Re: Art Thread
aight like I promised here's the portfolio I have been using at my university interviews (for animation).
It has been going down really well and I've been offered places at all of my choices so I guess it's a pretty alright portfolio
It's for animation but it aught to help with illustration and sequential art too
I'm gonna post everything in the order it was presented, it's important and I was complemented on it B)
So I start with this piece http://afternoon.heliohost.org/692/nymphhsmll.png
You're supposed to start with your strongest piece so I just picked the most colourful thing I've done lol. My environment game is weak but whatever it's pretty and stuff
Then some life drawings.

I had more but 2 lazy to scan
These are quick observational sketches. They go down well in animation and I presume it's the same on other courses.

Again there were more but 2 lazy
I had some hand and foot studies but they are boring and my scanner is slow
Then a perspective drawing, it's important to show perspective skill. The pages in my portfolio kept sticking, making me skip this, the interviewer would say "I'd would've liked to have seen some perspective work" and I'd go "Oh shit wait hold on"

bears lol

fill your portfolio with bears
I had some from reference too, they weren't good drawings but people like to know that you look at life

This was the oldest thing in my portfolio. It's not super important but they don't want to see old stuff and it's important to me personally to be fresh. I'm so fresh those observation drawings were actually done on my way to an interview.
Some expressions

These are the protagonists of this buddy adventure fighting thing I've been thinking about. It's about hair and fashion and punching people.
Storyboards
One of my interviews required I do this exercise where you draw a storyboard about a matchstick that wants to get back inside its box and this is the result.

Just so u know how devil-may-care I am I finished this on the way there too
kurazy
Then I finished with this piece
http://afternoon.heliohost.org/691/lake.png
At my top choice the guy identified that I was influenced by Eyvind Earle without me even having to tell him. Things like that are how you know, y'know
As additional material I had a short written piece about One Hundred and One Dalmations and a sketchbook
http://imgur.com/a/zXPAd#0
Here are some typical sketchbook pages, I was told "It's nice to see a sketchbook that's full of drawings, so many people come in with sketchbooks just full of pictures of work they like and shit"
Critique I received:
-Not enough colour
-Lacking design sense
-Calf muscles too pronounced (fuck you it's cool)
Hope this is helpful to some people.

Re: Art Thread
Good stuff. Now I'm tempted to post my portfolio on here, though I haven't submitted it to any place yet.

I can totally see why you ace every interview princess brothel, thanks for sharing this!
Re: Art Thread
thanx
Another thing I forgot to mention is that they like to see construction since it shows you know how to draw and aren't a copy cat.

And it shows you have a good sense of what you're looking at as a whole.

Re: Art Thread
Eeeeeeeeh. I've only been drawing for a year so don't expect anything good. I draw mostly on Miiverse, but I use Art Academy sometimes too. And rarely Colors! 3D, so I should probably draw a bit more with that.

(some Pocket Monsters redesigns for my upcoming fan comic, if you were wondering about why Rowan and Shauna looked so different. Like my other story, however, some people are out of character, and therefore I will not post it here)

GUYS. I DON'T THINK I DRAW SONIC ENOUGH. WHAT SHOULD I DO.

Oh good Mario.

Also WTH no spoilerboxes.

I actually hadn't drawn in a week so Bowser Jr. looked a bit off. Also, first time drawing Wario and Waluigi with effort.

it's a bad photo since the contrast is up too high
