Re: All topics unimportant enough to not create a thread for
Did you feel like you were behind at all when you first started? Because I'm going into a programming major and I have no experience outside of extremely basic commands and I'm worried about that. Not at all. Most people had zero experience, and the first semester was made with that in mind. Though...

Re: All topics unimportant enough to not create a thread for
Also hot daisies, I can't even imagine working on something that complex yet. Unfortunately my classes are moving kind of slow. The language (Eiffel) makes it simple and convenient though. How much experience do you have? I had never done any kind of programming before joining this major and this i...

Re: All topics unimportant enough to not create a thread for
Isn't that just a consequence of poor design? Programming related: I just added sound effects to my game (OOP II project worth 70%), which was the last requirement I hadn't met yet. The language we're using supports multiple inheritance and I make extensive use of it. I currently have 49 classes, wi...

Re: Art Thread
Krita is a free art program I know a couple people here use. They are doing interviews with professional artists and hobbyists that use Krita and one of the things that's always gets praise is its brush engine. It's also improving fast and has big plans. They've just started a second Kickstarter to...

Re: All topics unimportant enough to not create a thread for
My Android programming teacher from last semester was also terrible. We had to print out our code for the final assignment because he doesn't like reading text on a monitor I guess, but Android code (actually deformed Java) is an unreadable mess so I don't think he even read them and that means he h...

Re: Things that piss you off
Update: On my way back home today I stopped at the store and bought myself a bucket of real old-fashioned super rich ice cream with chunks of solidified real maple syrup in it. Oh and also when I got home my father had installed most of the mosquito nets and opened the windows already but whatever I...

Re: All topics unimportant enough to not create a thread for
Most of the stuff I listen to these days is from Sweden, Poland, Finland or Ukraine and some of it is fairly obscure (Philemon Arthur and the Dung anyone?). The only bands that I'd expect to be on Spotify are Talking Heads, Dead Can Dance and David Bowie (the rest is mostly world and folk music). Al...

Re: Super Smash Bros
I'm only missing 8 custom moves now, spread across Game and Watch, Toon Link, Kirby, Pikachu, Jigglypuff and Dark Pit, which are all characters I don't like but I'm forcing myself to play them to increase my luck. Bleh. Also I haven't played Kid Icarus Uprising and I know nothing about Dark Pit but ...

Yeah. It was nice. I'm still baffled that Youtube won't let you create on-the-fly playlists or just browse without losing the current video. It's a shame Google stopped trying to improve it.

Re: Things that piss you off
"Dad, could we install the mosquito nets so I can open the windows?" "It's not that hot. I'll do it eventually. Just stop the heating in the meantime." Oh sorry. I thought I was dying from the heat but if you're not then clearly I am mistaken. I haven't been able to open the windows at all last year...

Re: You youngsters explain the newfangled internets to me
The website I used to stream music from shut down and since now I have some cheddar I'd like to try that "being a decent person" thing and buy the albums. I'm looking at Amazon since most of the stuff I'd be interested in buying is old and out of print or would have to be imported from Europe. I fou...

Re: Things that Mildly Annoy You
Mom used my computer without telling me first and now I lost all of the tabs I had up in Firefox. There's an extension that lets you save your current session and reopen it later. Since you can't stop your mother from using your computer, you could tell her to at least use the extension when she do...

Re: What makes you pop flyin'?
I fixed the keyboard problem I talked about in the Dreams thread and now my game's server application can tell a remote client application how many points the player has.

Re: The Legend of Zelda
Wait what? I thought the scarecrow was in the observatory? Or is that a different one? It's a different one. I don't remember what the one in the observatory says. Also yeah Majora's Mask can be very confusing if you haven't played it before. Figuring what you can do and what you're supposed to do ...
