I'd be fine with smash balls on if there was a frequency option, but there's not, so I think that would make smash balls spawn too often if they were the only item. Well, actually, doing derp bot match quickies (1-2 stock) to unlock stuff and having only the Smash Ball on, and some of those matches...

Mp4 has the benefit of h.264 which is the de facto video compression standard and has much more widespread support than VP8, which is used for webms. Including, like I mentioned, hardware acceleration on mobile devices. Actually, now that I'm reading up on it, apparently Android has support for VP8...
