Donkey Kong Country has just as much gameplay as any 2D Mario title. Did he not play DKCR Returns? A bunch of (probably drunk) Texans were able to improve on Donkey Kong while at the same time getting back to its roots and that's tons better than any soulless New Super Mario Bros. title.
